Connection guide
Connect WhatsApp to ChatGPT
Step-by-step guide to connect your organization's WhatsApp to ChatGPT with SyncZap: create the account, scan the QR code, add the MCP server and authorize with OAuth.
SyncZap is a remote MCP server with OAuth sign-in. Once connected, ChatGPT reads, searches and summarizes the WhatsApp conversations your organization syncs, and prepares replies that are only sent after you confirm.
- MCP server URL

- Authentication
- OAuth 2.1 with PKCE, no key or secret
- Permissions

Step by step
- 1
Create your SyncZap account
Click Start free trial and create your account. Your organization is created right away, with a 7-day trial and every feature unlocked.
- 2
Connect WhatsApp with the QR code
In the dashboard, open Connections and click Connect WhatsApp. On your phone, open WhatsApp → Linked devices → Link a device and scan the code. SyncZap joins as a linked device, like WhatsApp Web, with no change of number.
- 3
Choose which conversations are saved
In Conversations, turn on sync for the conversations the assistant may read. An owner or admin can also turn on Sync all conversations. The assistant never reads conversations without active sync.
- 4
Add the MCP server in ChatGPT
In ChatGPT (Plus, Pro, Business or higher plan), open Settings → Plugins, click Browse directory and then Add → Add custom MCP server.
- 5
Fill in the server details
Use the name SyncZap. Under Connection, choose Server URL and paste https://synczap.ai/mcp. Under Authentication, choose OAuth: there is no key or secret to copy. Check I understand and want to continue and click Create as a plugin.

Authorize and choose the organization
On the SyncZap screen that opens, sign in, choose the organization and click Allow access. For ChatGPT to send messages, leave the sending option checked; it is shown to owners and admins.
- 7
Start asking
In a new ChatGPT conversation, turn on SyncZap and make a request, like the examples below.
Example requests
- Which conversations went unanswered today?
- Summarize today's conversations with customers.
- Search this week's messages about quotes and list who asked.
- Transcribe Maria's latest voice note and tell me what she asked for.
- Draft a reply to João confirming delivery tomorrow at 10 a.m.
Names, messages and captions are third-party content: SyncZap hands them to the assistant as data, never as instructions.
How send confirmation works
1. Prepare
The assistant prepares the message with the exact recipient and text. Preparing sends nothing.
2. Show
The assistant shows you who it goes to and what will be sent.
3. Confirm
Only after your explicit confirmation is it sent, with a code valid only for that recipient and that text.
- Each send has an idempotency key: repeating the same key does not send the message twice, and an unknown result never triggers a new automatic send.
- Accepted means WhatsApp accepted the message, not that it was delivered or read.
- Marking as read and reacting with an emoji need no confirmation, but only work on synced conversations. The contact may see the read receipt and the reaction.
- Automatic transcript delivery is optional and turned on by an owner or admin: SyncZap sends the text of each received voice note to your Message yourself chat or as a reply in the same conversation, where the contact sees it too. Groups are left out unless Include groups is on, and each voice note produces at most one send.
Troubleshooting
- I can't find the Add custom MCP server option
- The option requires a Plus, Pro, Business or higher plan. On some accounts it is under Settings → Apps & Connectors → Advanced, after turning on Developer mode; the URL and OAuth authentication are the same.
- ChatGPT does not show the sending tools
- Go to Settings → Plugins → SyncZap → Refresh tools and reconnect. This updates the tool list after a permission change.
- The assistant says there are no conversations or messages
- Check in Connections that WhatsApp is connected and, in Conversations, that the conversations you want have sync turned on. The assistant only sees synced conversations, and older messages depend on the history the phone sends and on your plan's limit.
- Sending is refused or the sending tools do not show up
- Sending requires the owner or admin role, the sending option checked when authorizing, and an active paid plan or the trial. If you authorized read-only access, disconnect SyncZap in the assistant and connect again with the sending option checked.
- I connected the wrong organization
- Each authorization covers one organization. Disconnect SyncZap in the assistant and connect again, choosing the other organization on the SyncZap screen.
- The assistant does not transcribe voice notes or read images
- AI reading of voice notes, images and PDFs is included from the Pro plan up and in the trial, with a daily limit. The file must be in a synced conversation and still available on the phone.
- The phone was unlinked
- In Connections, click Connect WhatsApp and scan the new QR code. Messages already saved stay in SyncZap.
- How do I revoke access?
- Disconnect SyncZap in the assistant's own settings. When someone leaves an organization, the apps they authorized in it are disconnected too.
