Z-API, Evolution API or UAZAPI for ChatGPT? When an MCP connector is the shorter path
By Patrick Alex, CEO of SyncZap · Published
Z-API, Evolution API and UAZAPI are WhatsApp APIs for developers: you build a system (a bot, a CRM integration, an n8n flow) that sends and receives messages. If what you want is ChatGPT or Claude reading, summarizing and helping you answer your own WhatsApp, an MCP connector such as SyncZap does that without code. If you are building a product or an automated bot, one of the APIs is the right tool.
Disclosure: SyncZap wrote this page. The facts about each API come from its own site, documentation or repository, checked on November 1, 2026 and linked below; items we could not confirm are marked [not verified].
Two different jobs
“Integrating WhatsApp with ChatGPT” can mean two things. In the first, a bot answers your customers on WhatsApp using an AI model: your server receives a message from the WhatsApp API, calls the OpenAI API with your key and sends the answer back. That is what the APIs below are built for. In the second, you open ChatGPT or Claude and ask about your own chats: “who is waiting for a reply?”, “summarize this group”. That needs an MCP server the AI app can connect to, with OAuth and per-chat permissions, which is what SyncZap is.

Z-API
Z-API presents itself as a stable Brazilian messaging REST API for software houses, ERPs and CRMs, charges per instance with no per-message fee and forbids spam and bulk sending. It publishes an MCP server in its developer docs, with tools to send text, images and videos and to manage groups, validated with OAuth. As listed, it is oriented to sending and group administration, not to reading and searching your history, so it does not cover “summarize my chats” on its own.
Evolution API
Evolution API is a popular open-source project (about 10,000 GitHub stars) that you run on your own server. It connects through Baileys (WhatsApp Web) or the official Cloud API and integrates with Typebot, Chatwoot, Dify, n8n and OpenAI. Its OpenAI integration creates bots that answer contacts with your API key and can transcribe audio into the webhook. It is a strong base for building a bot; it does not, by itself, put your WhatsApp inside the ChatGPT app.
UAZAPI
UAZAPI's documentation describes an HTTP API to manage WhatsApp sessions with a server URL, an instance token and webhooks. We did not find public pricing or an official MCP server; community projects wrap it as MCP. Like the others, it is a building block for developers.
Which one to choose
- You are building a bot or a product that sends and receives WhatsApp messages automatically: use a WhatsApp API (or the official Business Platform), and read Business API vs linked device first.
- You want to ask ChatGPT or Claude about your WhatsApp, summarize groups, transcribe voice notes and draft replies you approve, without code: use an MCP connector such as SyncZap.
- You want both: SyncZap has a REST API and signed webhooks from the Max plan, documented in llms.txt, so a developer can also automate on top of the same synced chats.
Connect WhatsApp to ChatGPT or Claude in five minutes
Create an account, scan the QR code, choose the chats and add this URL in ChatGPT or Claude with OAuth. Step by step: ChatGPT and Claude.

Can I connect Z-API or Evolution API to ChatGPT?
You can build a bot that calls the OpenAI API from either one. Z-API also offers an MCP server focused on sending and groups. To ask ChatGPT about your own chats and history, you need an MCP server with reading tools, such as SyncZap.
Do I need to code to use SyncZap?
No. You scan a QR code and paste a URL in ChatGPT or Claude. Developers can also use its REST API and webhooks from the Max plan.
Are these APIs official WhatsApp products?
No. Evolution API can use the official Cloud API, but the projects themselves are not Meta products, and neither is SyncZap, which connects as a linked device.
