WhatsApp chat analyzer

Open an exported WhatsApp chat and see who sends how many messages, the busiest hours and weekdays, each person's median reply time and the most active days. Filter by sender or dates to compare periods. The file never leaves your browser.

How to use it

  1. 1Export the chat in WhatsApp. Use Export chat in the chat menu, with or without media.
  2. 2Open the .txt or .zip. The chat is parsed in the page; Android and iPhone exports in Portuguese and English are recognized.
  3. 3Read the numbers. Cards show the totals, the table shows each person's share, words, media and median reply, and the charts show hours and weekdays. Each chart has its numbers in a table.
  4. 4Narrow it down. Choose a sender or a date range to recalculate everything for that slice.
  • Hours are the clock times written in the export, in the time zone of the phone that exported it.
  • Reply time only measures the gap between consecutive messages from different people; it cannot tell whether a message was really an answer.
  • System notices (joins, subject changes, encryption notice) are left out of every count.

Frequently asked questions

How is the reply time calculated?

Each time a message follows one from a different person, the gap counts as a reply by the new sender. Gaps over 24 hours count as a new conversation and are ignored. The page shows the median of those gaps.

Does it work for groups?

Yes. The table lists every participant, sorted by number of messages, and the reply time is computed for each of them.

Are words counted for media?

No. Words are counted only in text messages; photos, audio and other attachments are counted as media.

Is the chat uploaded for the analysis?

No. Parsing and all statistics are computed in your browser.
