WhatsApp chat viewer for exported chats
Open a chat you exported from WhatsApp (the .txt file, or the .zip when you exported with media) and read it like a chat: date dividers, bubbles, search, and filters by sender, date range and message type. The file is read in your browser and never uploaded.
Runs 100% in your browser: no account, no upload. Nothing you type or open in this tool is sent to any server.
Drop the export here or
The file is read by your browser and is not sent anywhere. Close the page and nothing is kept.
How to use it
- 1Export the chat in WhatsApp. In the chat, open the menu (⋮ on Android, the contact name on iPhone), choose More › Export chat or Export Chat, and save the file to your device.
- 2Open the file here. Choose or drop the .txt, or the .zip as WhatsApp created it. Android and iPhone formats in Portuguese and English are recognized, including 12- and 24-hour times.
- 3Search and filter. Search words or names (accents are ignored), pick a sender, a date range and the message types. Pick who you are to align your messages to the right.
- 4Page through or print. The chat is shown 200 messages per page, so very long exports stay fast. Print the filtered chat or save it as PDF from the print dialog.
- Photos, audio and other files inside a .zip are not shown: the viewer reads only the chat text, where attachments appear as placeholders.
- If no date in the file goes past the 12th, day/month and month/day cannot be told apart; you can switch the order by hand.
- Messages are shown as text. Formatting marks such as *bold* are rendered, links are not made clickable.
Frequently asked questions
Is my chat uploaded to a server?
No. The file is read with your browser's File API and processed in the page. Nothing is sent, and closing the tab discards it.
Can it open the .zip with media?
Yes. It finds the chat .txt inside the .zip and reads it with the browser's built-in decompression. Media files in the .zip are ignored.
How large can the export be?
Tens of thousands of messages work; the chat is paginated so the page stays responsive. The limit is your device's memory.
Why do some lines show as system messages?
Lines without a sender, such as the encryption notice, someone joining or a subject change, are shown centered as system messages, like in WhatsApp.
